Migrating Dynamo Waves and Consequences for Stellar Current Sheets

چکیده

We study the relation between stellar dynamo-wave propagation and structure of magnetic field. Modeling dynamo waves by well-known Parker migratory dynamo, we vary intensity drivers in order to obtain activity-wave toward Equator (as solar-activity cycle) or towards Poles. match field dynamo-active shell with that surrounding material, using a simple dissipative magneto-hydrodynamic system for transition region. Introducing weak asymmetry hemispheres, phase shifts dipole, quadrupole, octupole components at various distances from star demonstrate several-percent is sufficient realistic solar dipole quadrupole moments. behavior current sheets show poleward-propagating activity it substantially different ones. In particular, conditions which conical propagate opposite directions.

Polar branches of stellar activity waves: dynamo models and observations

Aims. Stellar activity data provide evidence of activity wave branches propagating polewards rather than equatorwards (the solar case). This evidence is especially pronounced for the well-observed subgiant HR 1099. Stellar dynamo theory allows polewards propagating dynamo waves for certain governing parameters. In this paper, we try to unite observations and theory. Methods. Taking into account...

Low-order stellar dynamo models

Stellar magnetic activity – which has been observed in a diverse set of stars including the Sun – originates via a magnetohydrodynamic dynamo mechanism working in stellar interiors. The full set of magnetohydrodynamic equations governing stellar dynamos is highly complex, and so direct numerical simulation is currently out of reach computationally. An understanding of the bifurcation structure,...

Anharmonic and standing dynamo waves: theory and observation of stellar magnetic activity

The familiar decadal cycle of solar activity is one expression of interannual variability of surface magnetism observed in stars on or near the lower main sequence. From studies of time-series of Ca II H and K emission fluxes that go back more than 35 yr and have been accumulated for such stars at the Mount Wilson Observatory by the HK Project, we define a quantitative measure, called anharmoni...

Solitary dynamo waves

Long dynamo waves are a characteristic feature of interface dynamo models with spatially localized α and Ω effects. The evolution of such waves is described by the modified Korteweg–de Vries equation. Solutions to this equation take the form of solitary waves, breathers, and snoidal and cnoidal waves, and represent nonlinear waves of magnetic activity that migrate towards the equator, as observ...

Structured, Dynamo Driven Stellar and Disc Winds

Considerable progress has been made in understanding the hydrodynamics, but only to a certain extent the magnetohydrodynamics, of shaping bipolar outflows forming protoplanetary nebulae (PPNs) and planetary nebulae (PNs). In particular, Blackman et al. (2001b,2001a) point out two problems related to the formation of PNs and PPNs, regarding the formation of multipolar structures and the origin o...
